More Dish from Kaiser Hawaii
Some brave souls have provided a breakdown of the leadership problems that plague KP Hawaii. I've cleaned up some some typos and grammar, but this is basically word-for-word.

Update 8/5/06: I'm changing the names below to initials. Kaiser has had long enough to act on this and consider the advantages of taking care of these problems within the organization instead of driving their own employees to seek help from the outside.

J.H., President: She was taking long vacation trips to Antarctica, while membership was going down. She even gloated about her trips, in a video conference meeting that was televised across the Hawaii region. She then turned around and fired C.S., in charge of Marketing Development. What kind of a leader is this?

S.E., Compliance: She's nothing more than a puppet of Jan.

K.J., HR VP: She uses Kaiser as her personal bank account. She doesn't like the color match of office spaces, she starts a project to change it. She wastes money, wastes time, and backs management against employees. Our source, who is now afraid to give more info, provided the proof that K.J. and HR does not support employees, even when many people make the same complaint against specific managers.

H. B., HR Labor Relations: He pursues his own agenda, and is crooked to the max. He backs Kaiser against union employees, even works secretly to screw them. Many workers at Moanalua Hospital don't know. They have Local 5, ILWU, and HNA union workers - he backs Kaiser against them all, while still smiling the employees he is screwing over.

C.J., HR Labor Relations: He is a puppet of H.B., and does what he is told. Bad guy.

W.W., HR: This lady is useless. But to the bad guys, she is a wonderful. She works sneakily behind peoples back and gets agenda done for people who want things done quickly and avoid proper channels for authorization. The joke? You need to get something slightly illegal done (roll eyes)? Call W.

D.M., HR: She already left Kaiser to head up HR at another Hawaii company.

E.C., HR: This girl is very pretty, but very bad. She fears for her own job, so rather than doing the right thing, she covers up HR scandals for her bosses. If someone tells her "drop this candidate, I don't like him/her" - she does it even though it's not fair, it violates Kaiser's hiring process, and the person is qualified. Allegedly, she also hides documents that prove peoples case against HR, but she does it only following orders.

N.Q., Facilities: (His last day was Thursday 6/29!!! VICTORY!!!) There have long been rumors him being a drain for money and favoring people. Here is another guy who used Kaiser as his own personal bank account, using his position as architect and private business developer to gain favors with vendors and make vendor selections against bid process. This is a conflict of interest, because he can use his power and do private business at Kaiser too.

G.O./L.H.: I initially thought they were married to each other, but they are married to other people. They have "private meetings" when they go to Dole near Iwilei Theaters: their favorite meeting because they can go to lunch together and shop at Costco, maybe even go to his house when the wife is not home...? At meetings they are like two children playing "who is more childish". I can't believe O. was promoted to Director. I think he is the new N.Q., now that N.Q. "resigned" and was forced out by National.

Z.M.: This was a contractor who seemed to be in charge of vendor selection. People at Ohohia say she is a really, REALLY bad person: she falsifies dates on contracts, steals company donations and gifts (like Christmas donations, gift cards, handbags, company label accesories, etc). She is the best of friends with Loreen. Though she was fired, she is ALLEGEDLY still on the payroll and uses KP accessories like a cell phone, laptop computer.

I heard he got demoted to a parking lot attendant during the morning hours. He cones up a couple of parking stalls which is reserved for him and his working mistress(I think her name is Loreene) to make sure that they have parking when they both come in the morning. He even is nice enough to carry her bags to the car when they are done for the day. Someone also told me that they have secret lunches at Keehi lagoon. I attended a couple of meetings with him and he sure acts like a child and an AS*****.

THE MANAGER IS GREG PAYTON A VERY BAD MAN. HE HAS HAD HIS GIRLFRIEND, RECENTLY HIS WIFE ON THE DEPTS PAYROLL AS A THERAPIST DURING HIS ENTIRE TIME OF EMPLOYMENT!. HE PROVIDED KICKBACK FUNDS TO CAROLINE SAKAI, PHD TO BE PAID MONEY TO TEACH TFT ON KAISER TIME, THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!. HE IS ALOOF, TALKS TO YOU ONLY WHEN HAS WRITTEN YOU UP FOR SOME RIDICULOUS REASON. THE WORST IS HIS FIXING OF DEPT POLICIES TO PASS NCQA. MR PAYTON HAS ALSO HIRED WOMEN WHOM HE HAD AFFAIRS WITH AT HIS PREVIOUS PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT, THE WAIANAE MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC. WHEN HE WAS ASKED BY STAFF IF HAVING HIS WIFE WORKING MIGHT BE AN ETHICAL ISSUE HE RESPONDED "GLADYS CHING", (CHIEF OF CLINICS) "SAID IT WAS OK"! HIS IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR, KAREN OSHIRO IS ALSO A PART OF THIS CIRCUS. THE DEPT HAS LOST 6+ STAFF IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS BECAUSE OF HIS POOR LEADERSHIP SKILLS, FREEDOM TO HARASS STAFF WITH THE BLESSINGS OF THOSE ABOVE!. OUR NEW CHIEF JOHN DRAEGER, MD TOOK OVER 10/05. HE HAS NO LEADERSHIP ABILITY, PANDERS TO THOSE ABOVE, AND PREACHES EVIDENCE BASED TREATMENT. WE HAVE NO TREATMENT PLANS, WE SEE PATIENTS ANYWHERE FROM 4-12 AFTER THEIR FIRST VISIT! WE ARE CHEATING OUR MEMBERS WHO PAY THEIR PREMIUMS FAITHFULLY EACH MONTH. MIKE CHAFFIN, HPMG CHIEF IN HAWAII SUPPORTS THESE CORRUPT LEADERS AS WELL ! IST VERY SAD TO HAVE TO WRITE THIS BUT THE TRUTH NEEEDS TO BE TOLD

I really wish Kaiser's manipulation of NCQA would receive more attention. They focus on activities which will give them high scores (and provide bonuses for people who meet the targets) - and then Kaiser advertises to the public that their NCQA scores prove their "quality".

Stick around - I have a really good story I'm working on now. You won't believe what Kaiser has been covering up!

The management team at Behavioral Health Services is as follows: Cassandra Tokoro, MSN, Team Lead Call Center. She is a puppet of Greg Payton, smiles and stabs you in the rear! Poorly skilled. Her previous position was in quality assurrance at Hawaii Sate Hospital. Rank: 51st in USA! Greg Tanida, LCSW, Team Lead Behavioral Medicine: Last position: Straub Hospital EAP, He is a hand holder, glad hander. Puppet and heir apparent to Mr Payton. Look out! This guy can sell you anything, as phony as they come. The rumor is that he purposely makes his patients cry in therapy sessions to gain compliance! No behavioral medicine experience yet he leads this team! Greg Browne, LCSW, Team Lead Childrens Team. Another puppet of Mr Paytons. class clown, poorly skilled. He is another leader with no experience. Mary Elizabeth Alvior, LCSW, Team Lead Adult Team, Waipio Clinic. Grandiose, narcissistic, fair clinical skills. Trashes colleagues to make points with fellow mgt staff.Aspirations to be the next clinic manager. Maureen Mandich, LCSW Team Lead, Adult Team, Ala Moana; A good person with a high level of skill, no hidden agenda. Thanks to whomever posted the information regarding Mr Payton,

I noticed that KP Hawaii HR Recruiter Jeff Miller was not on the list of people in the dish about KP Hawaii. He was mentioned in a complaint to HCRC and the EEOC. Also, Carol Augustin(sp?) was mentioned in the complaint but not listed in the beginning of this thread, she was supposedly Jeff Miller's co-worker and according to Kaki Jennings had nothing to do with hiring or recruitment (though internal KP Hawaii memos show otherwise).
The thing with large number of employees in a company is that eventually they start to flip on each other when scandal is involved. You would not believe how documents get "accidentally" leaked in a crisis.
I wonder if Jeff and Carol were fired or "released to pursue other job opportunities".
Please let us know what happened to them.

David Merlin, the guy who lasted all of two months at the head of Kaiser's kidney transplant fiasco, is now suing Kaiser for wrongful termination. I can't get to it tonight, but you can find out more from Kaiser Thrive: http://www.kaiserthrive.org

The Kaiser MacPac managers

This group seemed to have been overlooked. The MacPac,lead by Mackey Derigge is probably one of the worst management teams in the whole of Kaiser. Mackey, is clearly afraid of competition. She only hires incompetents; Bertina Au, Sandy Whang (probably the only competent person on her team, but who was challenged by the union for playing favoritism .....) An office assistant was said to not pass probation because she declined unwanted attention from Sandy). The union took action to have Sandy removed from the dept and the workers whom she attacked, but Mackey gave her a new job, compliance officer of operations....."go figure."

The Macpac is one of the most abusive and retaliatory management teams in Kaiser Hawaii. When Arnold Matsunobu was dismissed, someone should have looked at the Macpac/patient acctg team then. This is the most wasteful mgmt team. A systems manager who don't know enough about the system (old or new). The only job they actually do is follow workers into the break rooms and the bathrooms.....(some would say that's sexual harassment), when they see that the compliance officer is following them. Other hinchmen of the macpac/ratpack is, Rhanna Espinda, Kathy Uyehara, and their leads and management assistants, Adele Manera, Myrna Peppers, and Lori Hong. The Macpac, violate worker rights, violate the union contract, do not support Kaiser's vision philosphy. When workers complain or ask for help, they are followed around, and spied upon. Mackey, begged for help from upper mgmt so that she can attack workers. The union workers asked for a meeting to tell their story with mackey's new boss, Lance Ohiro, but he won't do it without Mackey and her team. The workers are not given a voice. In the hospital, union workers feel that the shop steward who gave them a lot of support was attacked by the Clinic manager, Melody Fanning (that's someone who don't know what is going on with her supervisor...Shelly Davis. Another supervisor who attacks workers.

I get a lot of reports from Hawaii. I hope if there's some sort of general Kaiser ethics reform, the folks in charge take a hard look there.
