Kaiser Does the Usual: Deny, Deny, Deny...
Kaiser Thrive pointed out that Kaiser has lost its good standing with UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) for "effectively denied patient access to kidney transplantation and threatened safety for patients on its waiting list." The L.A. Times article quotes Dr. Sue V. McDiarmid, president of UNOS:

At the time [of heavy press coverage], a top official of the HMO publicly apologized for the problems. But during the closed-door hearing Wednesday, Kaiser representatives struck a different tone...."I wouldn't characterize their position to us as acknowledging major errors," McDiarmid said. At times, she said, Kaiser officials actually denied that there had been serious lapses.

What is wrong with the "officials" running Kaiser Permanente? Isn't this a story we hear all too often, with just the actual violation being different?

The kidney transplant program is fine. We treat homeless patients perfectly. HealthConnect is working great. Our financials are stellar.

It's like a whole Boeing 747 crashing every day. (Forgive me, Cliff.) And the airline pretending nothing's wrong.

Eventually, there won't be anymore planes, flight crew, flight staff, or passengers.

Where the hell is the NTSB? (Break the analogy: Where the hell is the DMHC?)

Seriously - Kaiser's persistence in using the Deny Everything approach after being repeatedly called on it boggles the mind. Only sociopaths think they can override reality with sheer willpower. That's what Kaiser executives have been doing, and that's what makes them beyond wrong.

Are you kidding? The DMHC, Dr Bernadette Loftus, Physician in Chief of Santa Clara Kaiser is a member of the Clinical Advisory Panel,(CAP) for the director of the Department of Managed Health Care. Does this explain where the DMHC is? Correct in Kaiser's back pocket. This link will take you to the page to view the members of the CAP http://www.dmhc.ca.gov/boards/cap/default.asp
