Public Forum: The Kaiser Crisis and Where is Kaiser Going?
On Saturday, February 3 at 2:00pm there will be a free public forum on The Kaiser Crisis in San Francisco. It will be held at the Community Room on 630 Valencia St./17th St. Here's the description of the event:

Kaiser Permanente, which covers millions of people in California, has been facing one crisis after another from the cover-up of their kidney dialysis unit to the firing of workers who stand up for proper heathcare and health and safety. This forum will have speakers from the trenches at Kaiser who have seen how it operates from the inside and how the system really operates inside and outside. Who is regulating Kaiser and where is Kaiser going?

Join with Kaiser workers, consumers and healthcare advocates:

Dina Padilla, for Kaiser SEIU 250 shop steward and Voices CA Chapter Pres. B.E.S.T.
Dr. Charles Philipps, Former Kaiser Doctor, author and critic Of managed care
Sharon Rushford, Fought a legal battle for her husband who was a patient of Kaiser
April Gottman, Ex SEIU 250 Kaiser employee and researcher

And...[drumroll]...ME as a Former Kaiser web worker and activist for Kaiser transparency.

Sponsored by VOICES CA, B.E.S.T.
California Coalition For Workers Memorial Day
Labor Video Project

I believe this is going to be televised on local Bay Area TV - will get back to you all on that.

If you attend or see it on TV, please feel free to post a shout out here!

I apologize for not being able to update for a few weeks. I've had a lot going on. This doesn't mean there's a lull in Kaiser misdeeds: I just have to play catch-up reporting on it. I'm going to post an update asap.

Gads, is this like the 'why am I in this handbasket and where are we going?' or what???

If you get any links to this that you'd like me to post on [info]corporatenews, let me know. Thanks!

Wow, thanks! We need some solidarity, regardless of our target corp, if any of us are going to accomplish something for the benefit of others (and/or ourselves). Hope yesterday was awesome and would love to know how it all went down for you folks.

Yesterday went well - I'll post about it later. I wonder if any of the major anti-corporate blogs would do a feed of posts from smaller consumer-advocacy blogs. That would give you some publicity.

Maybe these folks will consider it:
http://www.corpwatch.org/

A bunch of small blogs could agree to use the same tags, and corpwatch could do a combined feed in a sidebar. The Nation does this for small but relevant blogs.

KASIER RETALIATION AGAINST EMPLOYEES
(Anonymous)
2007-02-16 05:30 pm UTC (link)
AN EMPLOYEE IS UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE TO DO EXACTLY WHAT KAISER INTRUCTS THEM TO DO. BRINGING WORKERS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES PERPETUATES THE NOTION THAT THEY WILL DO EVERYTHING REQUIRED, RIGHT OR WRONG TO KEEP THEIR JOB. I WOULD ADD THAT THESE EMPLOYEES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES WILL DO WHAT EVER IT IS THEY OR TOLD AND THAT THE INSTRUCTIONS THEY GET ARE NOT COMPLETELY EXPLAINED TO THEM-JUST DO S YOU ARE TOLD OR GEE WHIZ, THEY KNOW OTHERS HAVE BEEN FIRED FOR ATTEMPTING TO DO THE RIGHT THING.THAT ALSO THE GOVT COULD DO A ILLEGAL SWEEP AT KAISER AND THERE WOULD BE ABOUT 10% OF EMPLOYEES LEFT TO TAKE CARE OF PATIENTS. As it is there aren't and haven't been enough medical staff to take care of patients since I was there starting in 1985.KAISER MANAGEMENT WHICH INCLUDES DOCTORS AND NURSES, IN HOSPTIAL AND KAISER CLINICS BIGGEST AND ONLY MOTIVATION IS HOW TO CUT COST.IT's never been about the top notch quality for patients, exactly QUITE the opposite. I don't have a problem telling THAT to Congress where this all needs to be reported and acted on. KAISER TOOK OVER FOR PROFIT MAKING, AS A CONVALESCENT HOSPITAL MACHINE, BILKING THE GOV'T OUT OF BILLIONS FOR MANY YEARS.

Yes - that's a big problem at Kaiser: they exploit the vulnerability of visa-holders.
